What cables attach to the battery for a Volkswagen Beetle?

There are three different cables that attach to the Volkswagen Beetle (1970) battery, with two to the positive terminal and one to the negative. Where do these cables attach from there? And what is the chassis to transmission strap?|||The big red cable goes to the starter. The other goes to the regulator. The black cable goes to the floor pan. There is another cable (woven metal strap) under the car that connects the transmisson housing to the floor pan.|||sure that not backward two ground and one hot.. never seen any battery with three posts and ive always seen batteries with two one hot one ground|||one positive goes directly to the starter, and the other goes to the alternator/electrical system...

the negative goes to ground, and the chassis-transmission strap just grounds the transmission/engine to the rest of the chassis..

beetles are VERY simple creatures, unless you have to rebuild a transmission|||The larger positive cable should go directly to the starter. The smaller should lead into a wiring loom that will either feed the voltage regulator or alternator/generator. The other end of the negative cable just needs to be bolted to a good 'ground' - usually bolted to the floor pan or surrounding area - can even bolt to one of the holes for seat belts. The chassis to transmission strap is a ground connection. |||You are talking the heavy duty cables with the battery clamps on the end. The positive side goes to the starter and the negative is bolted to the body pan. From underneath the car when you are hugging the transaxle, there is a bare copper flat weave strap that connects to the transaxle which has to be connected to the body to get the negative juice from the body.
