How much would a transmission job cost for a 87 Volkswagen Jetta?

How much would a transmission job cost for a 87 Volkswagen Jetta?|||Let's say it's $2,000. Is it worth it? Trans jobs never turn out right. You'd be better putting the money toward a new small car like a Corolla, a Golf, a Scion tC, or something similar. The dealer should give you $500 for the Jetta even with trans trouble. If they don't, go to another dealer.|||manual or automatic. A different manual trans will cost you a couple of hundred, and swapping it in will depend on who does it. An automatic - don't bother. A 1987 VW auto trans would be costly and unreliable, even if its a rebuilt unit.
