I have a Volkswagen Passat and was wondering how important it is to use premium gas in the tank. If I buy regular, is it severely bad for the transmission? Why?|||If its recommended you are probably ok using 87 but you will lose some power.
If its required eventually you will cause some damage to your engine since its not made for the cheap stuff. Its like $0.20/gal so its like $2-3/tank. Thats really not that much when you are spending $30/tank.|||I have never use cheap gas on my VW never, you want cheap gas then buy a Ford Fiesta. If you drive a Passat then use 96+ octane. Also you can read the owner's manual and check what gasoline is the best for your car.
Look at this link so you can have an idea of how an engine work
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_co鈥?/a>|||I think the whole thing about premium gasoline is a bunch of crap! I drive an '06 Rabbit, and I use the mid-grade stuff, and I take my car in for regular maintenence....there's not a single thing wrong with the car.
Edit: I don't use the mid-grade, I use the CHEAP stuff...the 87 "octane" gas...it's fine.|||Use regular. Trans has nothing to do with it. Please tell me this is a joke.
